Remembering Roxanna

Geraldine Roxanna Fowles (Clark) Wallis fell asleep in the Lord Friday, November 21, 2008, at the age of 67. The first of two daughters born to Theda Geraldine (Fowles) Clark and George Robert Clark on August 8, 1941 in Glendale, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Michael Roe, Jr. Beloved of a large and extended family, she is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Barry Joseph Wallis, and her five daughters: Karen (Brent) Lawson, Maureen (Bryce) Soumokil, Amanda (Michael) Roe, Georgia (Toby) Bolden, and Alyson Wallis; and a son, Gerald Wallis.

With great joy, Barry and Roxanna welcomed thirteen grandchildren:
Sirita, Aizia and Blayde Lawson; Reina and Brianna Soumokil; Natalie, Alexander and Isabelle Roe; Kiera, Magdalene, and Gabriel Bolden; and Hannah and Gavin Wallis.

She is also survived by her sister, Janet (Shep) Kuester , nephew Llewellyn (Lisa) Smith and their daughter Scarlett.

Roxanna believed our time on earth was given us to learn the lessons our souls need in order to continue our eternal journey.

She taught us all by her example of selflessness, how to love unconditionally, to be kind to each other and how to embrace life.

A life long avid learner, Roxanna graduated high school and was a licensed small aircraft pilot at the age of 16. Her solo glider plane flight was celebrated by the local newspaper with a large picture and accompanying article due to her young age, being the first female solo glider pilot in the state of California and status as a local beauty queen. By age 18 she earned her degree in Home Economics at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA before pursuing her goal of being a licensed Cosmetologist by enrolling in the Edgewood School of Beauty.

Following their October 6, 1961 wedding at St Paul‘s Episcopal Church in Pomona, California, Barry and Roxanna began their married life at Fort Lewis, Washington after Barry was recalled by the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Roxanna was an accomplished seamstress and loved to make beautiful things, including prom dresses, and the wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses for her daughters’ weddings. Sewing Halloween costumes for her grandchildren was a tradition for her and added a wonderful excitement to our Halloween activities. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts and always had a couple of projects underway.

The good Lord sent all his misfit and unlovable animals to her for loving care. She loved and nurtured all creatures, great and small, mammals, reptiles, insects and birds. Family pets included the usual cats, dogs, hamsters, mice and rats, finches, canaries, parrots, cockatiels. Other, more exotics animals to share our family home included a racoon, an orphaned fawn, bummer lambs, an albino ferret, caymens, a water dragon, an iguana, a pygmy hedgehog, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, stick and leaf bugs and a Greater Myna bird.
